this is my absolute favorite app for photo editing on mobile. Not photoshop fix, not Enlight, not PRIME, not Snapseed. This app here. Those are all great, but VSCO is special. and its not just me, my photography friends use it a lot too.
when you first install the app, you need to be aware that it is not only a photo editor, but also a social network. VSCO seem to be going for the direction of giving you a photography blog (referred to in app as a journal), but they also have an Instagram-like photo sharing portion (referred to as your grid). You can also search for and follow other artists Journals and Grids. I recommend following Samuel Elkins and Sam Alive they will give you lots of inspiration of how you can use the app (also me, ChrisQPhoto).
The rest of the app is focused around photo editing, specifically with a focus on emulating the look of film stock, which is does SOOO well.
My workflow typically is I will shoot my pictures with my DSLR, then do basic edits in Adobe Lightroom. If the image is a portrait, I will do simple changes in PortraitPro 15. After this I will go to www.VSCO.co and login to my account, then go to the web uploader. From there I can sync jpg or png files of my images straight from my desktop to my iPhone.
Syncing works great, and if Im signed into my account on my iPad or iPhone I can keep all my files and edits up-to-date across all my devices. Also tech support when I have had a question has been great and they always respond in 24 hours.
I love the editing in this app. On iPhone there is no way to truly edit a RAW photo file, so I need to do that on a desktop. But this is very similar to color grading my photos after the fact to give them that special something... Its just not easy to describe. When editing the toolbar needs to be slid around because some of the tools are off screen, but they work amazingly. I love the filters, which I feel are my favorite of any photo app.
But not all things are perfect. There is no way to flip an image horizontally or vertically, you can only tilt them about 45 degrees in either direction. There is no way to free transform a crop either, but I think this is to simplify. The focus is on film stock emulation and sharing, not on being a be-all-end-all editor. But thats why I have Photoshop Fix or the others I mentioned before. Those apps are where my work happens. Its a bit of a chore to edit. but VSCO is where I have fun. Its more of a joy playing with an image and seeing what it can become in this app for me then it is in Photoshop either on my desktop or my phone.
I feel it could grow more, maybe add a histogram or other type things. But I love this app and hope you do too.
